Direct Sunlight
Is Our Energizer

"But up to 50% of it never reaches us inside"

The healthy effect of near-infrared light

For thousands of years, humans evolved under the sun, where Near-infrared (NIR) light supported essential biological processes. This affect is known as Photobiomodulation. Today, reduced exposure to NIR can negatively impact our health and well-being.

Part of natural sunlight

Sunlight gives us different kinds of light, including near-infrared light, which we can’t see with our eyes. On average, over a third of sunlight is near-infrared light

Deep skin penetration

Near-infrared light can penetrate deeper into the skin than other types of light, reaching the cells where energy production takes place. To experience its full benefits, your skin needs to be directly exposed to this light.

Mitochondria activation

Once inside, this light helps activate mitochondria—the powerhouses that fuel our cells. This process helps the whole body by boosting energy, mood, and overall health.

Reaches our skin cells

This light reaches your skin cells and activates mitocondria.

The science

We discovered the invisible part of sunlight that powers your body from within. This wavelength range, called near-infrared light (NIR), reaches deep into your skin and activates your mitochondria of your cells.

The result:
more natural energy, improved mood, and sharper focus.

The sad truth...
‘‘We spend 90% of the time indoors’’

How near-infrared light benefits were discovered

First studies to unveil red and near-infrared light benefit us

In 1967 Semmelweis University discovered that red light laser (694 nm) accelerates wound healing. In 90s NASA conducts research on red (630 nm) and near-infrared light (850 nm) showing accelerated wound healing and tissue repair.

Modern research provides answer to the mechanism

Researchers later uncovered the mechanism: near-infrared light activates mitochondria. Clinical studies have since demonstrated its benefits for cardiovascular function, inflammation reduction, and neurological health.

Our research on near-infrared light for daily well-being

At SunLED, we saw an opportunity to bring near-infrared light to everyday life. By making SunBooster easy-to-use and providing evidence of mood and energy improvement from independent scientific research, SunLED technology makes well-being accessible.

The effect of SunLED technology on human health and well-being

In this double-blind and placebo-controlled study performed according to all scientific best practices, University of Groningen examined the effect of near-infrared light on a group of generally healthy people in winter and in summer.
They found positive effects on well-being: after only one day of using SunLED technology participants reported better mood. Mood improvement was especially pronounced in winter. After four weeks of usage the participants reported feeling more energized.

The effect of near-infrared light on skin cells

To investigate how near-infrared light affects us on cell level, in this study conducted together with Maastricht University, irradiated skin cells were analyzed using advanced imaging techniques. It was shown that the near-infrared light of SunLED technology activates deeper lying skin cells and influences natural processes that maintain good skin health and function.

Effects of near-infrared light on cognitive, emotional, and physical conditions

In this study done by University of British Columbia, participants showed, resilience and a more stable emotional state under intensive cognitive tasks while being exposed to near-infrared light. The study also suggests that absence of near-infrared light indoors may have negative health implications.
